So for that 3.5million in cap space, what did they have nylander penciled in at?
- bryant

They assumed that the signings of Nylander and Johnsson (both RFA) would run around $7.5m total; so I'm guessing they predict a bridge deal for Nylander.

If it were up to me (and you're all lucky it's not), I'd probably bridge Nylander, too, since his future performance seems more unpredictable than either of Marner or Matthews.

Difficult to see Leafs adding a d-man unless trading away one of Gardiner / Zaitsev / Hainsey.

Leafs have to keep 5mln for potential bonuses (don't want bonuses this season on the 2019-2020 caphit).

Leafs have a few million left (3-4) without using LTIR and keeping 5mln of 'space' for potential bonuses. That is assuming 8million for Johnsson + Nylander combined.

Maybe. I'd figure Johnsson at 1 - 1.2 x2, and Nylander between 6.5 - 7 for 4/5 as well. I think we're all thinking in the same range.

Tyler Ennis? Really...?

He's scored 16 goals combined over the past 3 years and he's (frank)ing tiny.

Looks like a low risk, low reward signing.

Marner projected to get 100+ points coming season on Tavares' wing...
Dubas better sign him now to a 8y / 8mln per contract.

He can be buried in the minors with no cap hit if needed. Not a big deal imo

Leafs GM Kyle Dubas indicated that after the signing of John Tavares, that there were veteran players on the free agent market who were seeking long term deals that were willing to come to Toronto on the short term, likely because they would be able to get noticed and put up good numbers.

I franking love this idea, and it proves that Dubas is a brilliant tactician when it comes to using Toronto's advantages - financial and otherwise.

But then why the frank Tyler Ennis?

gotta differ here... complete and total waste of a roster spot and pro contract - in my opinion.

can't imagine he'd be happy playing for the Marlies... would rather have resigned Komarov for 2M (if he would have gone for that).

Ennis brings nothing to the table, that they don't already have in spades, and the thought of one of the young guys not playing for Ennis as a "veteran presence" would be just stupid.

Take the CAP dump of Sobotka or Berglund - either of which brings a dimension that Ennis simply does not have.

I'd rather save the contract and the money... and sign a depth defenseman for 1.2 than what Ennis brings to the table.

waste of space

The risk is giving him a roster spot over younger better players

44.

Including Horton? Has he taken a roster spot this whole time, even on the LTIR?
